Capacity Building in Coral Reef Monitoring for Seribu Island National Park Rangers PDF Print E-mail

Seribu Island National Park has enormous biodiversity, but not yet monitored, eventhough there are alot of stakeholders managing and utilizing resources in the area. These program needs data availability for sustainable resource management, but this demand can't be fulfilled due to the lack of human resource and capacity.

 

BACKGROUND

 

Seribu Island National Park has enormous biodiversity, but not yet monitored, eventhough there are alot of stakeholders managing and utilizing resources in the area. These program needs data availability for sustainable resource management, but this demand can't be fulfilled due to the lack of human resource and capacity.

 

Class session

 

To answer those chalanges, TERANGI in cooperation with Seribu Island National Park (BTNKpS) held trainings for long-term monitoring of coral reef ecosystem to the staff of BTNKpS. These trainings includes training in coral reef monitoring, database design and application for monitoring, and public awareness.

Training in Public Awareness

This training help BTNKpS staff in presenting coastal ecosystem charactheristic, biodiversity, values, threats, and conservation to local community and also to visitors.

Training in Coral Reef Monitoring

This training aims to build BTNKpS staff capacity in coral reef monitoring using several methodologies including manta tow, line intercept transects, and belt transects.

Training in Database Design and Application for Coral Reef Monitoring

This training aims to facillitate the establishment of long-term monitoring database in Seribu Island. The content of the training includes data mining, analisys, and representing coral reef monitoring data..

 

Database Training

 

The expected outcome of the training is the availability of human resources in Seribu Island which capable in assessing, monitoring, presenting, and managing coral reef ecosystem data sustainably. (=prasto=)
