The science program's strategy is three-pronged:

  • Promotion of scientific research by others. This includes providing training where appropriate.
  • Dissemination of scientific research findings, including analysis and adaptation of monitoring data.
  • Undertaking original research. TERANGI is currently planning to establish two field stations. These sites will be the base for research by TERANGI personnel. TERANGI will also facilitate research at these sites by others, where appropriate.

Assesment and Monitoring of Ornamental Fish and Corals in Kepulauan Seribu
This activity is under the cooperation MAC-TERANGI in certification Issue. It includes the following activities: stock assessment of ornamental fish and corals,implementation of logbooks, recording the species and quantity of corals and fish harvested and exported, and development of a geographic information system of coral and fish stocks and collection areas

Corals and Fish Learning Activity
Science program has regular learning activity about corals and fish, that is taken place in the office for increasing capacity building of TERANGI members. The learning activity is sometimes joined by other people from universities.

Training of Biological Conservation and Monitoring at Padaido Islands, Irian Jaya
The objective of this activity is to support local community with knowledge and skill to do marine resources monitoring and conservation. It was participated by 40 persons from 16 villages in Irian Jaya.
